In a move signaling a significant change in leadership, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced new appointments to key positions within the organization. The appointments, which come after a thorough selection process, aim to strengthen the GRA’s capacity to fulfill its mandate of revenue mobilization and tax administration.
At the top of the GRA, Ms. Julie Essiem has been appointed as the new Commissioner-General, she is the first woman to be appointed succeeding Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, who has served in the position for years. With year of experience in financial management, Ms. Julie Essiem brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role.
During her previous role as Commissioner for the Support Services Division of the GRA, Ms. Essiam spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing revenue generation and operational efficiency.
Her achievements include the successful implementation of innovative digital transformation strategies to streamline operational processes towards enhanced efficiency of the revenue collection body.
The Ministry, in announcing in a statement on Tuesday, April 9, also named three others for various roles. Mr Edward Apenteng Gyamerah is the Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Ms. Pearl Darko is the Commissioner, Support Services Division, whereas Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo is the Commissioner of Customs.
The Ministry said these new appointments are expected to strengthen the GRA and ensure that targets are met in an environment of professionalism, fairness, and exemplary client care.
Speaking on the appointments, Ms. Julie Essiem emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the GRA’s agenda forward. She underscored the need for a customer-centric approach to tax administration, focusing on providing efficient services and fostering voluntary compliance among taxpayers.
Mr Edward Apenteng Gyamerah the newly appointed Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, brings a fresh perspective to the GRA leadership team, with a background in public policy and strategic planning. His role will focus on developing long-term strategies to enhance revenue mobilization and promote sustainable economic growth.
