In a what I will say is a momentous transition, Stephen Blewett has officially taken the sit as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Scancom Ltd (MTN Ghana), signaling a new begining for the telecommunications giant. The appointment, effective as of April 1, 2024, comes after the departure of the esteemed Selorm Adadevoh, who has moved on to serve as the Chief Commercial Officer of the MTN Group.

Blewett’s promotion to the top spot at MTN Ghana is no mystery. With over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, he brings a full bag of knowledge and experience to the table. His journey has been marked by strategic leadership roles across various continents, making him a truly global executive.

Before assuming the position of CEO for MTN Ghana, Blewett held the position of MTN Group Operations Executive for Markets, overseeing eight countries in West and Central Africa. His fingerprints are etched across the region, having also served as a Non-Executive Director for several MTN subsidiaries, including Liberia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Benin, and Congo.

But his story extends beyond the African continent. Blewett’s telecoms journey has taken him to the vibrant shores of Jamaica, where he served as the Group Chief Operations Officer for Digicel. His leadership prowess was further honed during his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer for MTN in Benin and Cameroon.

As Blewett steps into his new role, he brings with him a vision that aligns perfectly with the company’s direction. In an exclusive interview with CNN Business, he emphasized the following key priorities:

  1. Customer-Centric Innovation: Blewett aims to enhance MTN Ghana’s customer experience by driving innovation across products and services. From seamless mobile financial solutions to cutting-edge connectivity, he envisions a future where MTN Ghana remains at the forefront of digital transformation.
  2. Empowering Communities: Beyond business metrics, Blewett is passionate about making a positive impact on local communities. He intends to leverage MTN Ghana’s reach to foster education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
  3. Collaboration and Partnerships: Recognizing that no company operates in isolation, Blewett emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders, government bodies, and industry players. Together, they can create an ecosystem that propels Ghana’s digital evolution.
