MTN Scratch Card Suspended: MTN Ghana

Ghana’s largest telecommunications network, MTN Ghana, has announced that it will phase out scratch cards for mobile phone top-ups, effective June 30, 2024. This initiative is part of the company’s digitalisation strategy and aligns with the Ghanaian government’s broader digital agenda.

Transition Details

In its announcement, MTN Ghana informed customers and retailers that unused scratch cards will not be redeemable after July 1, 2024. To accommodate customers during this transition, MTN will allow the value of existing scratch cards to be redeemed through a credit transfer at any MTN Customer Experience Centre.

Digital Top-Up Channels

To facilitate a smooth transition from physical to digital top-ups, MTN Ghana is actively promoting its existing digital channels. These include Mobile Money (MoMo), Ayoba, and the myMTN app. As an incentive, customers using MoMo for top-ups currently receive a 50% bonus on all transactions.

“The phasing out of scratch cards is part of our broader effort to protect the environment, empower customers with digital tools, and improve customer service efficiency,” said Samuel Addo, Chief Sales and Distribution Officer of MTN Ghana.
